Common questions about visiting

Information for wheelchair users and companions:
The stair lift from the Historical Hall down to the subterranean Commorative Hall is only to be operated by staff. Please ask our staff for assistance. There are two elevators in the Naval Memorial. Wheelchair users can access the first platform. The top platform is reached via 40 additional steps. Accessible restrooms are also available!

Do you open on sundays?

How much time should I plan for a visit to the Naval Memorial?
Attentive visitors spend an average of two hours on our grounds. Not only will you enjoy a magnificent view of the Kiel Fjord from the Naval Memorial, but you’ll also find the underground Memorial Hall, the Historical Hall with many detailed ship models, and an attractive exhibition on the history of German navies, as well as many exciting exhibits in the outdoor area.

Do I need to buy or reserve tickets in advance online?
If you just want to visit the Naval Memorial or Technical Museum U 995 you don’t have to buy or reserve any tickets in advance. Just come by and buy your tickets in our ticket shop at the entrance.

How do I get a guided tour of the Naval Memorial?
If you want to get a guided tour of the Naval Memorial in English, please send us an email to mem@deutscher-marinebund.de three weeks before and you will get all the relevant information.

Can I pay by card if I visit the Navel Memorial or Technichal Museum U 995?

Where can I park my car when I visit the Naval Memorial and Technical Museum U 995?
If you turn off the „An der Au“ country road toward the Naval Memorial, you will find a public parking lot. Here you then have to buy a parking ticket at the machine. There are also parking spaces for motorhomes and coaches at this location. If you are a guest at the Hotel ADMIRAL SCHEER or the HEIMATHAFEN restaurant, you can use the parking lot directly at the Naval Memorial ticket office at Strandstraße 92.

Am I allowed to take photographs and film at the Naval Memorial / Technical Museum U-boat U 995?
You are permitted to take photographs and film for private purposes. Commercial purposes (sale, reproduction, use for advertising, etc.) of these images are prohibited and will be prosecuted accordingly by the German Naval Association. If you are planning commercial or editorial photography or filming, please inform us. We will inform you in advance and will be happy to assist you on-site.

Can I bring my dog with me?
Bringing assistance dogs is permitted upon presentation of ID.
Other pets of any kind are not allowed to be taken into the Naval Memorial or the Technical Museum U 995.
